国土交通省関東地方整備局とＮＥＸＣＯ東日本は４月24日、首都圏中央連絡自動車道（圏央道）・神崎ＩＣ（千葉県香取郡神崎町）～大栄ＪＣＴ（同県成田市吉岡）間延長９．７㌔が６月７日に開通すると発表した。開通時刻、開通式典は決まり次第発表。
今回の開通で、常磐自動車道と東関東自動車道がつながり、成田国際空港へのアクセスが格段に強化される。北関東地域の中心都市の１つである前橋～成田国際空港間の移動時間を、圏央道利用ルートと都心通過ルートで比較すると、バラツキのあった移動時間が大幅に減少。同区間の移動時間は、平均１４４分となり、約24分の短縮となる。
圏央道や首都高速中央環状線などの整備により、首都圏を強化する３環状ネットワークが形成され、圏央道沿線には民間企業の立地が進み、物流の効率性向上が期待される。また、国内・海外からの観光の促進、各観光施設へのアクセスが向上。成田国際空港や羽田空港から１時間圏域で到着する観光施設は約１．８倍に増加する。神崎ＩＣ～東関東道・大栄ＩＣ間の通常通行料金は、普通車６８０円、大型車１０２０円。
